I've been working on a bottle of Garrison Bros for a few days now. I keep hoping it will grow on me, but so far, no luck. The nose and the flavor have something very unique that I can't put my finger on, but I can't say it's a good thing. I want to say it's just way too "grainy" for me, but I'm not certain that's what I'm tasting. No matter what it is, I won't be spending another $80 on this. I hate saying that because I'm about an hour and a half away from Hye, TX, but I just can't grow to like this stuff.

Just a correction -- it doesn't have to be aged 2 years to be considered bourbon. For it to be designated as straight whiskey it takes 2 years.

I've been a bourbon drinker for over 35 years. I have a dozen bottles of various high-end small batch bourbons in rotation. I bought a bottle of Garrison Brothers yesterday and I have tpo say that it was the single worst liquor of any kind that I have ever put in my mouth. It was disgusting. The color and taste both were awful. The taste was identical to soaking a smoked Bogarted cigar in Everclear.

Honestly, it's undrinkable. I even mixed it with coke and it was even worse.

Sadly, the liquor store warned me. The three counter clerks all said it was the worst most undrinkable crap they had ever tasted in their store.

Finally got my hands on a treasured bottle of the first public release of a Texas bourbon. Pricey? Yes, but hey, I'm a Texan and I feel I had no choice.
Exquisite packaging with a prominent Texas star on the glass. Fine wax-dipped cork closure, with a leather pull-strip. Impressive.
Poured three fingers into a rocks glass with one ice cube. Initially, an odor of wet acrylic paint emenates from the glass, which is offputting at first. I think this is why they tell you to let this breathe. It dissipated a bit, but remained the basis of the flavor profile on the palate. On top of that, this whiskey does all the right things: caramel, butterscotch and black vanilla flavors help you forget about the paint thing. There's a slightly floral, fruity note on the finish. Surprisingly smooth for a young bourbon. Tasted again the next day, neat, from a fluted Riedel bourbon glass with similar results. Overall rating: 88/100. I guess the bottom line is this: would I buy this again at this price? Answer: yes, but probably only once or twice a year.

Got me a bottle of "Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey" on November 3 at the store in Blanco, $80 seemed a bit expensive. I been hyped since I heard about it last November so I sprung for it. Impressive bottle and thought it might make great Christmas gifts. So tonight I cracked the seal, let it breath for about 10 minutes added a little shaved ice for chill. VERY Disappointed with the taste. Tried it with Coke, not much better. I realize everyone has their own taste but I'm sticking with Jack Daniels No. 7 and Maker's Mark, quality at a fair price.....

I don't care what they say. Bourbon is meant to be from KY! It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
