Jim Beam to Give Us The “Devil’s Cut”

Beam's new innovative bourbon product, Devil's Cut

Jim Beam is set to deliver a new product called Devil’s Cut in May, 2011. ‘Devil’s Cut’ is Beam’s trademarked term for whiskey that is still “trapped within the wood” after dumping. In other words, the dregs. We aren’t sure of the exact process Beam is using to retrieve the dregs from the wood, but it has been confirmed by Fred Noe that it some form of barrel sweating. Beam officially said this about its process: “Through a unique, proprietary process, we extract this formerly lost liquid from deep inside the barrel wood and put it back into our special Bourbon. The resulting liquid is deep in color, aroma and character with robust notes of wood and vanilla.”

There is no age statement on the bottle, but Fred Noe confirmed that the base is 6 year old Jim Beam, but the flavor is supposedly very different. We have heard it tastes like Beam, but has more oak and a longer finish. Noe says, “pulling more [bourbon] out of the wood is the key to this product”. It will come in at 90 proof and the retail price will be about $24 for a 750/ml bottle. We are glad to see the innovation and looking forward to something new. Let us know what you think about it if you have been fortunate enough to get a taste.

Nine-Year Aging Requirement Amidst Robust Demand Causing Knob Creek Supply Shortage

Knob_NothingDEERFIELD, Ill., July 7 /PRNewswire/ —  With double-digit growth fueling demand far exceeding early 2000 forecasts, Knob Creek(R) has reached a temporary shortage. The nation’s top-selling Super-Premium Bourbon requires a nine-year, four-char barrel aging process that sets it apart from the rest — as evident by its loyal customer base. The next batch of Knob Creek will be readily available again starting this November.

Booker Noe, Jim Beam’s grandson and the sixth-generation Beam family distiller who first hand-selected Knob Creek for production, knew the significance behind the nine-year aging process – a number nearly unheard of in American whiskey. It is evident in this complex, full-bodied 100 proof Bourbon that quality reigns supreme. With Knob Creek, Noe set the standard for an entirely new category: Super-Premium Bourbon. In today’s market, the demand for Knob Creek has far outweighed the supply.

“We could bottle the next batch of Knob Creek a tad earlier than nine years to satisfy demand, but that just wouldn’t be right. Much as we want to keep product available, like Booker Noe, we would never compromise on quality, or bottle at lower proof to fill a short-term gap,” said Bill Newlands, president, Beam Global Spirits & Wine, U.S.

“In many ways, a Knob Creek batch running out is the full realization of Mr. Noe’s dream to elevate the spirit he so loved,” said Newlands. “We have to thank our growing ranks of Knob Creek fans for making it so, and to ask their patience while the next batch fully matures to age nine.”

Noe family members today describe that dream as Booker’s quest to craft Bourbons reflecting a master distiller’s highest artistry, and watch them grow as spirits fans came to understand and embrace their rich and full character.

Specialty Beam Bottles Generate Support For Military And Firefighters

DEERFIELD, Ill., May 18 (FoodBizDaily) — This summer, limited-edition bottles of Jim Beam – the world’s No. 1-selling Bourbon – will help generate much-needed support for America’s military, firefighters and their families. Wrapped with custom labels in support of Operation Homefront or the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, the specialty bottles will be available starting May 25, Memorial Day.

Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. [Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE:FO) ] developed these specialty bottle labels to raise awareness for two non-profit organizations dedicated to the well-being of these heroes and their families. Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and morale assistance to troops, their families, and wounded warriors, while the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund assists firefighters and their families with educational, medical and equipment needs. The two Jim Beam bottles – one bearing Operation Homefront’s stars and stripes logo and the other depicting a firefighter – will be available in select stores Memorial Day through the Fourth of July.

BEAM GLOBAL SPIRITS & WINE OPERATION HOMEFRONT BOTTLE“We all benefit from what these brave men and women do every day and this is a way that people can show their appreciation while enjoying themselves at the same time,” said Rory Finlay, global chief marketing officer, Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. “We invite everyone to toast these two worthy organizations.”

Operation Homefront

“Our partnership with Jim Beam is tremendous because of the Bourbon’s popularity,” said Amy Palmer, chief operating officer, Operation Homefront. “Dedicating a bottle to our organization gives us great visibility and allows people to show their support for the troops who risk their lives to protect our freedom.”

Last year, Jim Beam donated upwards of $250,000 to Operation Homefront through corporate donations, local market events as well as support from its distributors and retailers. Jim Beam hopes to build on that momentum and raise even more money to support Operation Homefront’s mission. For more information about Jim Beam’s partnership with Operation Homefront, please visit http://www.jimbeam.com/operationhomefront.aspx.

“Jim Beam supports Operation Homefront and the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund because our brands share the same commitment and values – true character, integrity and doing the right thing,” said Kelly Doss, senior director of Bourbon and whiskeys, Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc.

Terry Farrell Firefighters Fundbeam-global-spirits2

After fire Chief Terry Farrell perished in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center – along with 342 of his firefighter brethren – his family established his namesake Fund that honors these modern day heroes. The organization donates firefighting equipment to underfunded fire stations as well as provides scholarships and medical services to the families of active, retired and fallen firefighters across the nation.

“By simply buying a bottle of Jim Beam, people across America can send a message of appreciation to the firefighters who keep us safe,” said Brian Farrell, chairman of the Fund and brother of Terry Farrell.

Jim Beam has already raised $200,000 for the Fund since 2005, and plans to donate an additional $100,000 this year by expanding commemorative bottle sales from the East Coast to 23 states. For a list of participating states and more information about the Fund, please visit http://www.terryfarrellfund.org/.

Jim Beam Introduces Red Stag

red-stag-by-jim-beam

Red Stag by Jim Beam™ is a new innovation from Jim Beam. Through a unique, artisanal infusion process, natural black cherry flavors are slowly and carefully infused into fine, four-year-old Jim Beam Bourbon. The tasting notes are distinctively fruity, without disguising the familiar, rich nose of Jim Beam Bourbon. The corn sweetness and mellow oak taste of Red Stag is accented by a hint of black cherry for smoothness and balance.

Red Stag by Jim Beam™ will launch in June 2009. The 80-proof Red Stag has a suggested retail price of $17.99, which will vary by market, and will be available in 50ml, 750ml and 1L packaging. Details of in-market activation and specific programming will be announced early next month.
